Plans for a “healthy campus” that will include a grocery store in downtown Kansas City, Kan., are about to get real.

Realtors working with the city say they are working with potential grocers and shopping for a location, The Kansas City Star reports. Bill Crandall of CBC Real Estate Group said his company is looking at land between 10th and 11th streets and State and Ann avenues, but don’t yet have a contract on any parcel.

Another key component — finding a grocery store to anchor the project — also is proceeding. Officials said at least two grocery store operators are conducting feasibility studies.

A downtown healthy campus has been a priority of Mark Holland, mayor of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kan. The project is to include a grocery store to increase healthy food options and a community center operated by the YMCA.
