UMSL at Grand Center • St. Louis, MO

In late 2009, on behalf of the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the Curators of the University of Missouri issued a request for proposals for a facility to house academic space and its NPR radio station KWMU. Based upon its extensive public-private partnership experience, complex project experience and an understanding of the client’s needs, CBC Real Estate Group was awarded the project in March 2010.

Adjacent to the existing KETC Channel 9 Public Television station, this 27,000 square-foot, three-story building is in a critical location in the arts, education and media block. Occupying the majority of the site, the architecture of the building aligns with the holistic vision for Grand Center. It connects two corridors — a future access path from St. Louis University through the active Lindell Boulevard alongside St. Louis University Art Museum to an alley corridor that joins various institutions, such as the Contemporary, the Pulitzer Foundation, the Sheldon Art Galleries and Concert Hall, Fox Theater and Big Brothers Big Sisters, among others. This contemporary and unique structure was designed by two Washington University architectural professors and displays an impressive structural design that is highlighted by the use of dark gray zinc metal panels and extensive walls of glass.

The building, which opened in September 2012, received the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Silver Certification.
