Lenexa Justice Center • Lenexa, KS

After a competitive bid process in August 2021, the City of Lenexa, Kan., selected the Owner’s Representative Team of CBC Real Estate Group and Benson Method to help bring a $65 million public safety complex to fruition, replacing its current aging facility in a more centralized location.

The new 117,785-square-foot Lenexa Justice Center will sit on a portion of City-owned land at Prairie Star Parkway and Britton Street, a short distance south from Lenexa City Center. The future facility will have space for the city’s police department, municipal court, information technology server room, communications unit, training and vehicle storage and a firing range.

The CBC/Benson Team joins Finkle + Williams Architecture, who is serving as the Justice Center’s lead designer. Finkle + Williams will partner with Roth Sheppard Architects, a Denver-based firm that has completed more than 60 public safety facilities, and several other consultants — including Henderson Engineers, Renaissance Infrastructure Consulting, BSE Structural Engineering, Hoerr Schaudt Landscape Architecture and TCA Architecture.

In December 2021, the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) was amended at by City Council to increase the cost of this project from $65 million to $73 million, due to global market conditions. JE Dunn was awarded a contract for construction, which is expected to begin in the fall of 2022.

Construction is anticipated to be complete late 2023 or early 2024.
